Friends, The family has made the poignant plea after 1st Airborne Division veteran Mr. Denis Icke - who took part in one of the most famous and ill-fated offensives of the six-year conflict - died aged 96. In an emotion-charged appeal, Mr Icke's wife Madge, 94, and son Stewart, 65, said they'd love to give him a proper send-off to salute the immense bravery of Denis's wartime generation. Stewart said: 'I want to invite people to come to my father's funeral because at their ages my parents had only a very few surviving friends. 'It would mean so much to my mother who thought the world of my dad after they'd been married for an incredible 74 years.'
