A bronze military decoration depicting the Emperor Caracalla.
A bronze military decoration depicting the Emperor Caracalla. "Formerly, the phalera with the portrait of Caracalla probably was set upon a standard of the imperial Praetorian Guard. The Emperor wears the corona of the sun god Sol as a symbol of rulership of the world. This illustrates his claim to sole emperorship after the murder of his brother Geta." This dates to 212-217 AD and was presumably found in the Praetorian camp now called Castra Praetoria in Rome before being acquired by the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany.
