The Maryland State House: 250 Years of History is 104 pages of beautiful new photography, combined with historical photographs, all part of the historical narrative of one of the most historic state houses in the United States. In addition to the history of the architecture of the building, the book focuses on its wonderful artwork and historic memorials. This is the first complete guide to our State House ever published and it is especially relevant in these difficult times, while the building itself is closed to the public. A Guide to the History of Slavery in Maryland. This history of the institution of slavery in our state and its legacy to the present day, is a beautifully illustrated tribute to the millions of enslaved people who lived through this terrible injustice. It focuses on the lives of the enslaved, as well as three of the plantations where they were held in slavery: History Sotterley Plantation, Historic St. Mary’s City, and Hampton National Historic Site. It also provides insight into the important roles played by figures such as Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, and many others who worked to bring an end to the enslavement of so many. It is available from the Archives for $15, which includes shipping.
