This photograph was sent as a postcard by Dominikus Müller, with the following translated description on the reverse:

"Remembering the time when I was severely wounded during an air-raid in France on 25/04/1917. Dominikus Müller."

The further fate of Dominikus Müller is sadly unknown, we can only hope he survived for many years to cope.

Rape has been used as a means of torture throughout history. For example, during the Nanking Massacre, Japanese soldiers raped and murdered thousands of Chinese women. Rape is also used as a method to extract confessions from prisoners. Amnesty International found that rape is “routinely” used to force women confess to crimes in Mexican prisons. Prisons in Iran have also been accused of beating and raping their female prisoners, and terrorist organizations like ISIS use rape as a means of torturing women. Rape is perhaps the oldest and most enduring method of female torture that exists.

 BURWOOD PARK AUSTRALIA The Burwood Sandakan Memorial is a brick and stone cenotaph, established in honour of those who died during the Sandakan Death Marches in the Second World War.  The base of the structure is a rectangular brick plinth. Attached across its four sides are 10 bronze plaques, including nine honour rolls. These contain the names of more than 500 veterans who enlisted from the Sydney region and died as Prisoners of War in British North Borneo. The tenth plaque gives a brief history of the death marches.  Sitting on top of the brick plinth are two granite slabs and two more bronze plaques. The top slab is smaller than the bottom slab, which also projects out over the plinth to provide protection for the plaques below. The centre piece of the memorial sits on the top slab.
