The techniques employed varied, but the primary method involved binding or wrapping the head with cloth, wooden boards, or metal devices to gradually shape the skull. This process began shortly after birth and continued for several years until the desired shape was achieved.
       In many cultures, head elongation was a status symbol, denoting majesty, beauty, power, and higher intelligence. Among the Mangbetu, for instance, elongated heads were a hallmark of the ruling classes, signifying their elevated social standing. In ancient Kemet (Egypt), skull modification was believed to enhance spiritual connection and divine communication. The Nubians of Kush (Sudan) also practiced head elongation as a mark of royalty and spiritual authority.
          Head elongation was often linked to spiritual and religious beliefs. In some cultures, the elongated skull was thought to resemble the crescent moon, symbolizing connection to the divine and the cycles of nature. In others, it was believed to enhance the individual's ability to communicate with the spirit world or ancestors.
