A Love Story That Ended Together After 75 Years of Marriage


Some love stories last a lifetime, and for Alexander and Jeanette Toczko, that lifetime was 75 years of marriage.

The couple, who first became childhood sweethearts at just eight years old, spent decades building a life together. They raised five children, welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren, travelled, and worked side by side through every season of life.

In their final days, Alexander suffered a serious fall that left him bedridden. Hospice workers placed his bed beside Jeanette's so the couple could remain together. As his health declined, Jeanette's condition also worsened.

For years, they had shared one final wish to spend their last moments at home, lying beside each other and holding hands.

That wish came true.

Alexander passed away first while lying next to his wife. When their daughter gently told Jeanette that her husband was gone, she embraced him and softly said, "You got your wish. You died in my arms. I love you. Wait for me I’ll be there soon."

The family stepped away to give her a private farewell. Less than a day later, Jeanette also passed away.

Their daughter later said even the hospice nurse described it as one of the most moving moments she had ever witnessed.

The Toczkos were born to Polish immigrant families and married in 1940. During World War II, Alexander served in the U.S. Navy before building a successful career in advertising and photography. Jeanette worked alongside him and was devoted to their growing family, especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shortly before they died, Jeanette believed it was their 75th wedding anniversary. Wanting to give her comfort, their children celebrated the day with her, allowing the couple to feel they had reached the milestone together.

Alexander and Jeanette Toczko were later laid to rest together, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of lifelong love, commitment, and devotion that continues to inspire people around the world
