Two sisters. One braid. One last moment of being seen as a person, not a number.

In the middle of that 1943 platform in occupied Poland — the shouting, the smoke, the lines splitting apart — the older sister still found a way to give her younger sister love with her hands. No ribbon. No mirror. Just memory and touch.

The younger sister carried that forward for decades. And every time she braided her daughter’s hair later, she was keeping that love alive.
