Monday mornings at Royal Heights College were always a disaster.

Students rushed through the school gate as if someone was giving away free money inside.

Some adjusted their ties while running.

Others held one shoe in one hand and their school bag in the other.

The security guards shouted from every direction.

“Run faster if you don’t want punishment!”

No one dared slow down.

Assembly started by exactly 7:30 a.m.

Anyone who arrived after that became the entertainment of the day.

Some swept the entire compound.

Some knelt under the scorching sun.

The unlucky ones received strokes of the cane before classes even began.

Nobody wanted that.

Royal Heights College was known for many things.

Excellent academic results.

Strict discipline.

The teacher smiled.

The girl spoke softly.

Daniel looked up.

Sophia looked at Daniel.
